Hospira bacteriostatic water in vials of 30ml (individually or in bulk). Bac water is sterile, non-pyrogenic, comes in a multiple-dose container and contains 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol, as a bacteriostatic preservative.
Our bac water is generally used for:
- Medication dilution – this is its most common application as it is used to dilute medication prior to use. Mainly, bacteriostatic water is intended for subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous drug administration.
- Medication reconstitution – there's also medication that's in a so-called powder state (lyophilized – stript of water) and it has to be mixed with a solvent before application.
- Multiple dosage injection – due to its properties, bacteriostatic water is perfect for medication administered over a number of days as it will keep the drug safe.
Note that bacteriostatic water can be used up to 28 days after the initial usage, while "plain" sterile water must be discharged after a single usage.
